上星期天晚上在里約的訓練基地，英格蘭隊長傑拉德坐在球員以及教練團的前列，簡略地談一談英格蘭輸給義大利，要付出甚麼代價。
 
這個會談是由英格蘭總教練霍格森(Roy Hodgson)所召集，傑拉德以他一貫的冷靜、謹慎態度，向大家發出警告，必須在義大利的敗戰後，好好準備下一場比賽。

在對英格蘭的比賽中連進兩球的蘇亞雷茲表示，烏拉圭的勝利是對英格蘭那些不斷批評他的人，一場完美的復仇！

27歲的利物浦前鋒在上下半場各進一場，決定了比賽勝負，也把連輸兩場的英格蘭逼到了懸崖，只要義大利踢平哥斯大黎加，英格蘭就陷入淘汰命運。

西班牙中場大將Xabi Alonso表示，西班牙在世界足壇的統治地位隨著在本屆世界盃出局而消逝了。
一比五大敗給荷蘭，接著又以零比二輸給智利，意味著西班牙在B組已經出局。
「我們已經無法維持那種要拿下勝利的執著以及飢餓感了。」今年32歲的Xabi Alonso(皇家馬德里)說。「過去的成功、踢球的喜悅感已經消失了。」
